I recently installed the plastic bonnet release on my latest project, and on the first pull it fell apart. Since I wanted a handle right away, I found an old Ford dress up valve cover bolt The thread (1 /4 x 20) looked close to the diameter of the release rod. I could thread the rod if I ground the 2 ears off. After silver soldering the 2 pieces together, I filed the soldered joint smooth and painted it black. Once it was painted, I could see with a little more work, it could turn into a nice looking replacement handle.
