Had our series 2 Alpine switched over to neg ground. Temp gauge is barely registering at normal running temp. Does the gauge need reworked for the neg system? If so, does anyone out there have one available? Thinking it might be the sending unit-which you can’t get for early series anymore-but have one from a parts car.

I don’t recall them being polarity sensitive unless perhaps the internals were rebuilt with modern components at some point. Try this page, contains some information on testing the gauge and circuit.

The original voltage stabilizers were thermal type, and wouldn’t be polarity sensitive.
However, if it was replaced with a solid state unit, then it is polarity sensitive. Club member Ed Esslinger was making solid state replacements.
