My speedometer cable has broken twice in a short period of time after the second cable broke I now believe its the speedometer causing the problem with the speedometer bouncing. I want to clean the speedometer and lubricate what oil or grease should I use. If this doesn’t work I will have to have it rebuilt.

Jim,
Make sure the cable is not too long. The stretched cable should not go more than 1/4" passed the holding nut. I broke a couple of speedos twice in the past when changing cables. The shop where I have had my speedos fixed explained that a longer cable forces the mechanism driving magnets too close together.
Cheers, Gilles
