Hi Bob
I'll send you all the details by the end of today. Since you're going thru PA, as I did to United 36, you'll be taking I 78 into New Jersey which takes you to the George Washington Bridge. From there, you just go straight on I 95 which is the Cross Bronx Expressway to the exit for the Throggs Neck Bridge. I think that's exit 6B and takes you to the Throggs Neck Bridge. At the end of the bridge, you either can take the Clearview Expressway or the Cross Island Parkway. The only thing you have to know is that trailers are not allowed on Parkways. Therefore you'll take, or really continue on, 295 (the Clearview Expressway) going south to exit 4E which puts you on the Long Island Expressway (I 495) East. Form there you'll be traveling East to the exit for Glen Cove Road (exit 39). The distance on 495 is about 9-10 miles. At the exit, stay in the left 2 lanes and turn left onto Glen Cove Road. You'll take that about 7 miles north to the end of the road, where you'll see a fire house. There you'll turn right onto Glen Cove Ave and go a half mile to Dosoris Lane on your left. Make a left onto Dosoris and go just over a mile to the Mansion at Glen Cove which you'll see on your right.
All of these directions to the hotel are ok for trailers as you'll be in Expressways or regular streets. We may be putting the trailers and/or modern cars, if you don't want to separate them, on a lot a mile from the hotel to avoid the congestion like in Atlanta, but I'll have more on that later.
I hope that gives you a sense of the trip.
Getting over the GW is the biggest pain but tolerable. The time from the Throggs Neck Bridge to the Mansion is about 35-45 minutes.
Regards,
Sy

I was going to do the directions sooner or later.
Glad to give you the details.
Jim Lindner also wrote up directions to get to the GW Bridge.

Hi All

Today I traveled home to Long Island to visit with my mom. I drove in through PA so I thought I would give a breakdown of the drive and the traffic.

The trip was very easy. I traveled during the late morning and drove in across the George Washington Bridge and the Cross Bronx Expwy. Traffic was probably a bit lighter than ususal given it is July 5th and, although a work day, some commuters likely made their 4th holiday into an extended weekend. Anyway, below is a breakdown of the trip

Location Miles Travelled Elapsed Time (Mins) Traffic Conditions
I-78 NJ State Line Start Start
I-287 North 24 25 Light
I-80 East 21 17 Medium
GW Bridge/ 28 25 Heavy but moving
Throgs Neck Bridge 9 12 Heavy - moving (lane closed)
I-495 (LI Expwy) East 5 8 Medium
Glen Cove Rd Exit 9 13 Heavy-moving

Totals 96 100

As you cn see pretty much clear sailing all the way.

Jim

Jim,
How much of this is toll road and can you pull a car trailer on this route?

Bob

Trailers are good to go all the way along this route...it is all interstate.

Two tolls...One to cross the GW Bridge ($10.50 ezpass amount) and one to cross the Throgs Neck Bridge ($5.86 ezpass amount). If you do not have an ezpass it will cost a few dollars more. Also probably a few more dollars for that extra axle on your trailer.

Enjoy the drive and see you in Sep.

Jim

Hi Bob
Just one more word about Jim's route: when you get off the Throggs Neck Bridge, you can either take the Clearview Expressway (going straight) or the Cross Island Pakway (bearing to the right). With a trailer, you have to take the Clearview as trailers are not allowed on Parkways. They both get you to the Long Island Expressway (I-495) and to the hotel in almost the same amount of time as the Clearview is faster but intersects I-495 a few miles west of the Cross Island. Once on I-495, the traffic east is a little heavy until you cross the Nassau County line at which time it lightens up and takes you to the Glen Cove Road exit where you take aleft to go north.
Hope that helps.

Sy

Hi All

Here is another NY driving experience. This one will be of interest to those who like to get an early start when departing from the hotel, heading home after the United. The route taken is for those DRIVING their cars and heading south. No trailers on this route

Last Friday I departed for home from my Mom’s house. She lives about 10 miles further east out on the island from Glen Cove. She also lives on the south shore so I usually take the Belt Parkway over the Verrazano Bridge, though Staten Island and across the Goethals Bridge onto the NJ Turnpike south.

I departed my mom’s house at 5:30 AM and I was across the Verrazano in 40 minutes and across the Goethals and onto the NJ Turnpike in under an hour. That is fantastic time.

From the Glen Cove Mansion, just get on the Long Island Expressway west, just a few exits to the Cross Island Parkway south. The Cross Island Parkway runs right into the Belt Parkway. Take that to the Verrazano Bridge. BUT you need to leave early to beat the rush hour traffic.

See you in September.

Jim

Hi All

See the photos for a peek at our host hotel, he beautiful Glen Cove Mansion and our Concours venue, the North Hempstead Beach Park. We have the picnic pavilions reserved and they are only steps from the beach, the comfort facilities and our show field.

See you in Sep.

When I mailed my United registration I noticed there was no mention of tables needed by those of us that sell parts. How do we reserve tables?
