Harrington Lemans on RM Auction

is this the car that went to japan a few years back? if it is it has a late series front crossmember and a 1725 motor in it plus a lot of other changes to the car that are way different from the lemans specs.

so it’s been upgraded but does that make it better? i don’t think so.it’s not an original LeMans.just like other converted cars such as rebodied harringtons ,algers etc.

Yes, If it is more enjoyable to drive and it is safer to drive It is better…..Sounds like they installed rootes parts that the factory later put on their cars to improve them also…..I own one of those Algers and it is better than a "factory Tiger" because it has been improved for driving enjoyment and safety…..it is improved for what matters, going down the road, not trailerd to some event so others can oggle and be impressed. These cars were built to be driven and enjoyed, not turned into trailer queens.

I know there is , and I enjoy seeing thos cars as much as the next guy, and I appreciate them in their original form…..It’s just not me…and I was tweakin Eric a little to see if I can get a rise out of him….All in FUn….Mike

keep in mind that some of us ,for various reasons can not make long trips driving these cars.jean and i used to drive them everwhere in our younger days but something like the deteriation of jean’s lower three discs just does not allow us to make those long drives anymore. my harrington is one of the rougher cars to travel in due to the stiffness of the suspension. but we have a 24 year old that will drive any of the cars anywhere. we drove a series 5 to our first united at williamsburg.that was a long time ago. lets see; we drove to downingtown,indy,niagra falls,huntsville,etc.my point being that we do show up with a car.we just can’t make the long drives anymore like we used to! but that may change with the updated 69 GT that is being built.so do not knock people that show up with their car on a trailer.we don’t have to clean the car as much that way either.

Relax, I was just jokin, maybe I am jealous of those nice cars on the trailers…I am getting older too, and cant take the long trips like I used to…Mike

I think you thought that Bob W (65beam) was me (65sunbeam). We do both have Harringtons and Bob has a freshly restored one that is really nice. We had a good selection of Harringtons at the last United-that was a great drive going there too. Cheers, Eric

Oh Hi Eric, Yes I thought that was you….Was trying to mess with you…yes was a nice trip to Covington ( I went in my van as no sunbeam was drivable)…I will have my Alpine in Daytona though…Alger wont be ready…Big British car show the 7th of April 2 miles from my house..TAC inspectors will be there checking Tigers…It is at the Queen Mary British Pub, so I might have a beer or two. By the way, four of us sunbeam owners in the neighborhood recently bought four new winshields at the Victoria British Winter Sale….seemed like a deal at $130. but one guy tried to install his, they are too long, too big to fit… 3/8 inch too wide…. He fianally got it in after 4 hours work with two guys, and I also bought from them an Alpine Slave cyl, it said made in China…didnt have the reverse flare fitting for the clutch line….gota watch Vic British… Know anyone that wants a triumph spitfire? jean is now considering making trips in the beams.i guess i should think about installing trailer hitches since she doesn’t travel light.

Bob, I bought from Moss Motors a small inflatable pillow for lumbar support, put it in the Alpine Seat. It has a hand ball attached to it to inflate/deflate it. It installs in the seat back , under the vynal. I too have lower back problems and sunbeam seats lack lumbar support on a trip. It is not noticable in the seat when deflated. I also have AC componants to install in both cars and cruise control for the Alger (C4 auto)….I am trying to make these cars trip freindly. I have trailered in the past to Tiger Toms, Saint Louis, Suni 1..ect. I prefer to drive the car, but of course I seem to have more than my share of breakdowns. .(people shy away from caravaning with me)…….Speakin of a trailer, I know where there is a nicely made 1/2 of an alpine trailer for sale….even has shortened doors on it…It is in VA……Years ago I had a chance to buy white Harrington in Atlanta for 5k….I looked at it and passed….regreted it ever since……He had taken the OD out of it…I did buy the tranny…Mike

jean recently found 12 volt heating pads for sale on e bay.made by SUNBEAM.she bought two of them and she tried one out over this past weekend on our trip to PA. to pick up some parts that we bought. works great ! they tie around the seat.she said it eliminated the stiffness she usually gets from a 500 mile trip. TT gave me some tips on modifications to the 69 seats that should be an improvement to them. maybe i should trade her in on a new model.

!2 volt heating pads…a great idea…will look for one on ebay…I sleep with one when my back starts acting up…..A 69 sunbeam…that should make a nice ride for trips…could addd ac like Ed Esslinger did to his Alpine. That is a car that resembles a barracuda? 1725 mounted at an angle? Steel head? Mike

yes ,it’s the fastback.the car was stored in a garage in washington d.c. for 31 years when i found it for sale on e bay last june.rust free and the GT model.1725 with aluminum head and dual strombergs with manual trans.it is in the body shop now.i am going to install a vintage air unit to cool the interior.this makes a total of five of these cars that i have had.

Does it have overdrive being a GT? I just bought on ebay a dashboard with the gauges ect from the same model car…havent recieved it yet, I bought it because I am hoping the speedo is for OD to fit into my Alpine….Seller has more parts from the car. Want his email address? I plan on a period AC unit in my Alpine also as it is so hot here in Florida….Mike
