OK, mark your calendars.

October 10-12: The 2008 Tigers East Alpine East United meeting is set for that weekend just outside Washington DC in suburban Maryland at an unusual and beautiful convention center and hotel. The place is called the Bolger Center (actually, it's a former Catholic convent and Postal Service police training school with two recent hotel annexes set on 83 acres of well tended grounds). Early October is the best time of year in the Washington DC area, great weather, clear skies, no crowds of heat-crazed tourists. It's close, but not too close to major highways: I-95, I 270 and I- 495. Easy access from both north and south. For those of you in Florida, the AutoTrain terminal is only about 30 miles from the hotel. The date and the site were approved by the United Committee under the chairmanship of Joe Parlanti in January. Some detailed negotiations are still underway but the basic deal is set and the room prices will be in line or under the customary local prices. Still to be settled is where the autocross and concours will be located, but they will be nearby. There is a shuttle bus from the Center which can take people to a nearby very large shopping mall and also to a Metro stop with frequent Metro subway trains running to downtown Washington (including the Capital, the White House and other sites that will be of interest to kids and other family members). Although detailed negotiations are still underway, the parts room and the hospitality rooms will be centrally located (next to a bar and restaurant) in a large lobby-reception area. There will be more specific information coming in Rootes Review when the registration opens officially, but mark your calendar now and start making plans to be there.
