Simeone Museum "Preservation Workshop" 12/12/2015

Postby Mark1A » Sat Dec 05, 2015 5:47 pm

Philadelphia's Simeone Foundation Museum first ever Preservation Workshop will focus on the First Daytona Coupe [#CSX2287], adding to its previous impressive list of firsts 8)
(Dr. Simeone is a major proponent of "Preservation")

quoting the Musuem's website:
Join us December 12th for our first “Preservation Workshop”. This one-day symposium will focus on the preservation efforts and long term stewardship of a featured vehicle from the museum’s collection. Dr. Fred Simeone will host a presentation consisting of a lecture and a photo slideshow, while the car is displayed on the main stage.

The first car featured is our 1964 Shelby Daytona Coupe chassis number CSX2287. The life of CSX2287 is well-documented, dating back to when it was built at Shelby in 1963, all the way up through its life at the Simeone Museum. However, the public has never seen photographs from its preservation efforts, which were recently rediscovered in the Museum’s library. This collection consists of hundreds of amazing photos including before & after, hidden sections, rotisserie shots, individual components, close-ups of serial numbers, and exciting discoveries of previously unknown features.
After discussion with noted connoisseurs and historians, it was decided that the car would undergo a mechanical restoration in early 2007. This consisted of partial disassembly and preservation of original finishes and markings. All original parts were put back into commission unless it would be unsafe to do so, and the car was made to run as effectively as it did during its competition life.

We’ll also have a display set up with never-before seen materials from the Museum’s archives, such as documents and vehicle parts. In celebration of the car’s 50th anniversary of running at the Bonneville Salt Flats on November 4th, 1965, we’ll have some original “Bonneville Salt” on display, which was cleaned off various parts of the car.

This event will begin promptly at 12:00 in the Main Space at the museum. At the conclusion of the presentation, guests will see the car on stage for photographs and inspection. Mark your calendars – this should be an awesome event! General Admission tickets are $12 per person. Simeone Museum members get in free.

The website has some interesting teaser photos.
This should be a very informative event.

Very interesting talk/presentation today by Dr Simeone, with tons of pix... and he did fire the car up [inside] so that everyone could hear it :D
One of the volunteers noted that the preservation effort took about 700 hours
