Bob Kimes Alpine at Mid-Ohio

this was probably a divisional race but it is really good footage of the Bob Kimes race car that Ian is restoring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezTbv_z-FWU Below is Ian's website with more period information. http://www.bobkimes.com/ http://www.bobkimes.com/kimes_gallery/kimes_gallery.htm It is ne...

Re: fuel tanks - series V

It has been 15 years since I last changed the gasket under a sending unit but if I remember correctly it is just a twist lock. I seem to remember using a drift pin to knock a tab to make the unit turn slightly. (on the other hand it could have been some other car!) Hopefully somebody else can chime ...

Re: Period correct tires

I don't think the redlines were correct. Most older images I have seen I thought the Tigers had white walls (which I believe Coker sells a BF Goodrich White wall about 1" white wall). I have to believe blackwalls were "standard". Maybe tonight I can check the Road and Track road test ...

http://www.tbahc.com/html/car_show_2010.html

The Tampa Austin-Healey Club is having an all British Car Show Oct 23rd. Sunbeam is the featured marque. They hope to have a good turn out of Sunbeams and I am sure it will be a great time!

Ken Miles/Lew Spencer Sebring Alpine

Well, I think I have resolved the disposition of the 1962 Sebring Alpine of Ken Miles/Lew Spencer. Based on a series of discussions over the last few days it appears that the car was dismantled in the 1980's or so. It appears that Ray Kawcek (sp?) who lived in San Francisco had this car. Ray passed ...

Racing in the Southeast 1960-70's

http://www.dctra.org/?p=689#more-689

Hopefully the link works above... .it is from the Desert Triumph Register and is a collection of numerous photos from different tracks including Courtland, Hall Tennessee, etc.

You might even spot a few Alpines racing.

Re: Rootes Memorabilia

http://www.racingalpines.org/hj3.jpg These are the internal orders within the dealership for each race of 1964. Before each race the car was prepared. It wasn't cheap... typically these bills were running about $200.00 - for every race. Most work required the replacement of rod bearings. There was ...

Rootes Memorabilia

I just received some documents related to Sports Car Forum and the racing. Here are some of the images of the memorabilia. It is amazing how much was saved from that period. http://www.racingalpines.org/hj1.jpg Numerous notebooks with the programs/lap charts/setup information http://www.racingalpine...

Jim Forno and a prototype (?) Alpine

This person on Ebay had two Sunbeam photos for sale.... they are somewhat interesting. The first one is, I believe, Jim Forno. If you notice it is a RHD Alpine. According to Jim this was a prototype Alpine which he had specially imported to race. Apparently, the Alpine was already getting poor press...

Re: More Tiger and Alpine race car ads

Eric, I always look at the prices and wonder the same thing... but I guess you have to put it in perspective based on percentage of cost. I suppose if the 2300.00 and 3500.00 in todays dollars was 10-15 times that adjusted then you can sort of see the rational in going with the less expensive car. O...
