HUMBER SUPER SNIPE SERIES II

P.T.F.E. Swivel Pin Thrust Washers

A new type of thrust washer (Part No. 1203654) has been fitted to the swivel pin from Chassis No. Super Snipe II B8002774 onwards to give reduced steering effort.

The name P.T.F.E. is an abbreviation of PolyTetraFlouroEthylene. The washer consists of strip steel, tinplated to prevent corrosion and the load carrying surface consists of a mixture of P.T.F.E. and fine lead powder.

The P.T.F.E. thrust washers CANNOT be fitted to existing stub carriers because with their associated parts they are thicker than the thrust washers they have replaced. The stub carrier boss dimension has been reduced by .048 – .054″ (1.21 – 1.37 mm) to accommodate them. The attached illustration shows the new arrangement.

When fitting it is most important to ensure that the P.T.F.E. washer, the sealing ring, and bearing plate are assembled as shown in the illustration.

Please bring this to the attention of all concerned.
