TO: ALL ROOTES GROUP DEALERS
SUBJECT: DISC BRAKES SUNBEAM ALPINE SERIES I & II

Where complaints are received in respect of “squeal” on the disc brakes fitted to the front wheels of the above model, this can be overcome by fitting special anti-squeal shims.

The shims, of which four per car are required, can be obtained through the normal Parts channels against Part Number 1206222.

To fit, proceed as follows:

  • Jack up the front of the car and remove the road wheels.
  • Remove the retaining pins and clips used to secure the brake pads in the calipers.
  • Clean off any road dirt or grit found on the pad backing plate. Insert the shims supplied between the front of each piston and the rear of each brake pad. When fitted, the semicircular cut-out on the shim should be facing downwards, away from the bleed screw, and the tongues should be facing outwards. (See illustration).
  • Refit the retaining pins and clips. Refit the road wheels and lower the jack.

These shims have been fitted in Production from Chassis Number B.9103936.

Kindly bring the foregoing to the attention of all Service personnel at your location.
